Well, I actually just replaced mine because someone though it would be fun to throw a rock at it while I was driving... You'd be amazed how many pieces your back window can turn in to, lol.

Anyway, me and a friend did it in like 30-45 minutes. We took out the rubber gasket that goes around the window and cleaned the broken glass out of it. Also, had to vacuum up all the broken glass which was all over the car, that actually took a while. Anyway after we had things cleaned up, we put the gasket back in, then sild one side of the window in, and got the rest of the window in with the help of a puddy knife.

Sorry if that's not too good of an explination but, I tried. :)

I had to replaced the rear window on my 84 318i when I got it, I too just slid in one side of the window and used a small skiny oblject to slide around the window pulling the gasket over the rest of the window. The hardest part is probally getting the lock strip back in.

when replacing the front or rear glass and lock strip, some silicon spray lube does wonders to help everything slide in.
