    Ground Control People...

I'm going to be ordering new rear shocks tomorrow, as one of my Bilsteins is completely blown.
I'm going to get Koni's, but just wondering if its worth the extra money to get Ground Control's "custom valved" ones. Would it really make that much of a difference over the standard e30 Koni's?

    Thanks in advance.

When I talked to GC about thier "custom valved" Koni's they told me that they don't actually custom valve them to your spring but they have them made by Koni for them. To me that was a little sketchy so I just went to True Choice Motorsports which is down the street from me and got them there and no problems. oh my rates Frt- 450 Rear-550

how does that sound sketchy? koni makes the custom ones at the factory, that sounds pretty safe to me..

of course I don't think it'd be worth it neccesarily on a street car. konis are pretty stiff anyway, plenty enough for the street at least. Unless you just want a hardcore setup, the standard valved ones will probably be fine.

        Thanks in advance.

FYI, Bilsten has lifetime warranty on their shocks. Check with your vendor or with Bilstein NA for replacement.

GC never say that their shocks are custom valved. They are "preadjusted". Which, simply put, is that they turn the knob for you before they ship it out to the ball park.

Koni NA's reps will custom valve your shocks for you if you want. I don't remember the price. But, as with everything, there's always a limit on how stiff or soft you can go.

TC Kline has some custom double adjustable E30 Konis for about $500 per corner.

And to answer your question about the difference it depends on what you are trying to do with the car. For street driving stay with Bilstein, for some autocross/track off the shelf Konis are fine. On the other end of the spectrum are external reservoir JRZs and Motons(former JRZ). So here you go, fill in the blanks.

        Hope this helps.

Yeah they just turn the knob. Whatever, you'd likely fiddle with them later anyways.

GC does offer the trunk-adjustable ones though, I'll be getting those.

Thanks for the info. I plan on doing some autocrossing in the future, and hopefully some driving schools. As far as the Bilsteins, the PO bought them so I'm shit out of luck on the warranty issue, as it only applies to the purchaser.

By the way, from the Ground Control website:
            Rear:
Custom Valved EXTERNALLY ADJUSTABLE Koni shocks.
Doesn't really matter though, I'm going to get the regular e30 Koni's instead.
As far as price goes, how does $106 per shock sound? Any places you guys would recommend shopping?

Apparently they're the externally adjustable ones, too. I'm going to give them a call tomorrow just to make sure, though.

$20 says they're not the trunk ones. That's just a general description of SA shocks they put up. :(

Still a great price from what I've seen.

I guess I just felt like it was misleading because they made them sound like they were custom valve to your application, at least that is how I interpreted it, not that the company was sketchy, I have never had a problem with them.

The GC koni's are revalved so the adjustment range is closer to what GC customers need. With my GC setup, before these shocks came out, I ran out of adjustment, my next setup will have the GC Koni's. The top adjustable rears are with it themselves.

Alright, I just ordered the Koni Sports Rears from adrenalineracing.com. There are NOT the externally adjustable ones, but I can't really justify spending and extra $100 for that. I'll let everyone know how they work out.
