What lube to use for E30 viscuous LSD?

Does the viscuous use the same type of oil as the clutch type LSD???
for the clutch type LSD, it's common to use the 75W90 LSD oil. But wat about the viscuous LSD?

I'm not sure what type of oil to use, but I'd like to know! I think on the ix the diff lube is sealed off from the actual VC unit, and is only used to lubricate the gears, so non-lsd oil should work. maybe I'll ask on the ix mailing list, I know for sure that I need to replace the gasket on my front diff and flush both of them out!

Yea if someone could post what kind to use that would be awsome. I need to flush my LSD and put in some new oil aswell and would like to know what to get.

Matter of fact i was going to make a thread asking what to use but was to lazy to make one so maybe it will get answered in this thread...who know's. :)

your LSD has a clutch pack in it, not a viscous coupling ;)

in any case, you should get the gear oil meant for an LSD differential.

BMW Owners Manual does not differential oils for LSD or viscous type diffs. It just says "Reputable hypoid gear oil SAE-90(GL-5)

Check the metal tag, for viscuous, it should be a 'V' prefix before the ratio, eg "V 3.73"

No, for north america ix's came with 3.91 (5 speed) or 4.10 (auto) VC differentials, in europe the older ones came with a VC 3.73 for the 5 speeds.
