    Pistons...

So DanGillan and I went to the junkyard today. There were some good pieces, maay need to go back and pull some OBC and Cruise Controls, and maybe some interior panels.

One thing we did find, a superETA. At least that is what I figured it was from the tach. Now I know people are always looking to get the pistons from these bad boys, so we figured we would go back and get them sometime.

I have never done any interior engine work this involved. How the hell do we get the pistons out?

Can someone give us an article or a run-down on what we need to do?
If so these will be out and up for sale soon!

    Thanks

How do you know it was a super eta?

it had big bumpers but a front valence with built-in foglights?
it had big bumpers with later style taillights?
My mountains are better than yours.

      Pull the clyinder head
Pull the oil pan, undo the 2 bolts per conecting rod holding the conecting rod to the crank, and push the pistons out the top of the engine. Once out using a small screwdrive pry out the retaining ring of the wrist pin on one side and drive the pin out.
You'll need to lift the engine to get the pan off, and most of the con rod bolts use a very odd shaped bolt. It's like a helical Torx, I've had great luck with a 12 point 10mm socket. I took a bolt into a auto tool store and they had never seen anything like it before.

The tach went to 6k. Eta goes to 5k. And the 'i' I dont remember.

It had early style bumpers. Dan got the vin, so we can check it for real tonight.

Do you think it is possible to pull these in one day, in a junkyard?
        How long should it take?

The super eta would have the 88 aluminum bumpers but newer tail lights.
I took me 1.2 hours at a junk yard to pull an I head, then I'd figure another hour to yank the pistons. It's not realy hard to do. Depending on when you get the pistons out I may want them.

I would give you the address, but MapQuest did not work at all!

I had to ask multiple times to find this place. (The Indian guy was no help).
Should have just asked Dan for directions, because leaving was easy enough.

I was at Jack's this weekend too. I lost the interior I was looking for . They've cleared a lot out lately but I did see the pistons you mentioned. Was the engine bay open already? There looked to be water in them puddling. I had them pull a transmission and flywheel for me and they only charged $50 for labor. You may want to just ask them what they'd charge. Getting underneath the cars at that place would be a real nightmare. I had my eyes on those at one point but ended up with an entire super eta free so I didn't need them.
Driving is the only way to go faster....

I take it you were looking for the black vinyal interior that I unbolted from the 318iS? Jacks is just to expensive that is why I like Hollands better.

Oh and never use mapquest use msn mappoint it is far better.

                            Where is Hollands?

I did pick up the wiring needed to wire up my analog clock though from an old 318.
There were two e30s with trunks we could not get into. One had a nice looking basketweave, and most likely some tools.
