    almost died. brake problem!

so i just got the IX tuned up. it along with a bunch of other stuff, i had the control arms replaced w/ bushings.

when i went to pick it up, i noticed that when i came to a complete stop, (after 1500rpms) the brakes would pulsate under my foot and the car would feel like it was sliding foreward. i determined that it felt like the ABS was kicking in even though there was no need.
it did this constanly, but only under 1500rpms while coming to a complete stop. it never did this before i dropped the car off.

it was raining, i was driving around this semi-sharp turn, and the car started to slide, normally it would have stopped fine, but when i pressed on the brake, the same problem happened and i kept sliding foreward. i started to pump the brake and hold it, everything in the few second i was sliding. nothing worked. i came head on at a tree and luckily the car finally turned and i just missed the tree.

weird part: it kept doing it after i almost died. but i shut the car off the get something, and when i started i decided to pump the brake a lot till it got firm. then i started driving and it was fine. until i pulled up to my house.

someone help me. i have no idea what is wrong. The ABS light is NOT on or going on.

first off, don't drive the car! brakes are a serious issue, I'm sure you realize this after your narrow miss with a tree.

How is your brake fluid level? when was the last time it was bled?

did they put the ABS sensors back on correctly? if you remove the front wheels you should be able to check them. maybe one of the wires is cut? of course if the sensors were malfunctioning your ABS light should be on. Did the shop disconnect your battery when they did the work? It could be that the ABS computer is fried (it's an ix specific part, so hope it's fine). Definetly call them up and let them know your issue!

this is the #1 reason I do all work on my car myself! That way, I never have to wonder if something was done properly on my car, because I KNOW it was done the right way! :)

    good luck

the guy told me to take it for a spin when i picked it up. i took it for a spin. realized the problem. made the guy get back in the car. he drove it. realized it too.

i asked him about it. he said he never jumped the car, never did anything having to to with the brakes, nothing.

there are no lights on in the car (check lights.) i just bought the car 3 weeks ago. where can i check the fluid level?

in the engine compartment, on the drivers side between the fuse box and engine is the brake booster and resivior. you can't miss it!

Man, you were a "noobie" once too. How the heck do you learn unless you ask questions?

Best way to surpass the n00b status, without the flaming of some on forums:

                - Bentley Repair Manual.

That book is like my bible. Helped me out A LOT already, and cut my technical questions by 1/2.
