    ViPeR 2 Chip Review:325i (ecu380)(5 speed)

    WOW!!

I just got my Viper 2 chip in today, made by e30gumball, and this thing is great.

Idle has been raised alittle. Throttle response is much better, More power, Feels much smoother, Higher Rev Limiter.

The installation was breeze. After putting it in, i let the car idle for 10mins, then took it out for a drive. The roads were wet, and i was spinning my tires more than i ever had done before, so i still havent driven it in the dry yet :( , But that will happen tommorow. The power band seems to never die while driving it hard. I remember when w/o the chip it would sometimes feel like the power would just go away after a certain point, but now it feels great while accelerating all the way up to the red line.
It scared me the first time going all the way through 2nd gear, because Its weird to see the needle go through most of the Red on the tach(Freaked me out a bit). But it seems to deffinatly be worth the $65 that i paid.

I can not compare to a JC chip, but paying 4 times the amount of money i paid for my chip doesnt see right. I mean there is no way the JC chip is 4 times better than this one, it just doesnt seem possible.

I am very happy with the chip and would recomend it to anyone who is looking for a good chip. This one can not be beat for the price!

I don't know about your chip, but the J.C. chip is smog legal in all 50 states and has passed the strict C.A.R.B. approval here in Calif. Is it worth 4 times as much pretty much depends on whom you ask.

not to get off topic, but how would legality of a chip ever come into play? are cali authorities that nazi-ish?

Yes and no. It mostly comes down to whether a car equipped with aftermarket equipment (intake, exhaust, engine management) will pass smog and making sure the factory smog equipment is installed. I don't think they would know if the chip is even installed as long as it passes smog testing, while headers and intake manifolds are a different story. Manufacturers who want to sell in the state have to get a C.A.R.B. certificate for their product. Here in Sacramento the standards are tougher than other parts of the state. Then there are even tighter standards for non-like-for-like engine swaps (s50 in an e30) and other non-traditional mods (home built turbos, etc) where a referee has to make sure it not only runs clean but has proper smog equipment installed and working.

                  Southern Cali fun

Thanks to the ridiculous amount of streetracing in southern california at this point all police officer will now ignore all C.A.R.B stickers and send you straight to the referee because so many people have fake stickers. One of my friends just got a fine because a judge basically told him he didn't care about the letter from AEM that said his intake was smog legal. Time to go get black paint and shet metal so I can lie and say my turbo is oem and the cop is out of his damn mind,
