Offer $1500 and then buy a new OEM cat and downpipes from BavAuto for like $300.

it could be something simple. I've heard of people changing their oil and passing after that. it could also be a bad O2 sensor or cat. this is why you have a mechanic check out the car so you know what needs to be fixed.

Could be true. Was it even close to passing? If so, I'd say change the oil (it will get your carbon numbers way down) and run it through again. Also, changing the O2 sensor (if it hasn't been changed in a while) can correct the A/F mixture.

my 66k M42 barely passed NC emissions, maybe 1 point away from failing. When/if it does fail, I'm going afor a catco or some other universal cat, you can have those on the car for less than $200, hell with paying for OEM

I don't think NO will be improved with a new cat.

Isn't NO from running lean? The cat should take care of the carbon, and the O2 sensor should correct the A/F ratio so that it doesn't run lean anymore.

I dont remember which one was almost too high, but the iguy who did the inspection suggested a new cat may be in order soon *shrug*

ken, this is what someone else said on another forum, so you suggest changing the O2 sensor instead of the Cat?

                    Hey guys,
Just wanted to give you an update. I just picked up the 318is yesterday night. I previously told you guys that it didnt' pass smog because of a HIGH NOX level at 15mph run "limit 845, car had 1450" everything else pass, but me and the owner changed the "Catalytic Converter, Spark plugs, fuel injector clean in gas tank, and changed OIL" Now the car passes with very low number, nothing even close to the limit. Just wanted to let you know the fix incase someone searches it up one day. Thanks for all the help again.

                        Ditto.

So you didn't have to replace the O2 sensor?

Nope, didn't replace the O2, only parts i replace was written above. Didn't use any of that guarentee to pass stuff, or alcohol in the gas tank. Just changed the parts, and WAH LA, passed with really really low emissions.

How long has it been since you replaced it? If you haven't recently, I'd do it. If you're running rich, it'll clog up the cat.

I don't think it's ever been replaced, and it has 200k. Let me make some money and i'll change it as soon as possible. Thanks for the heads up Ken.
