Turboed M30 E30

    M30´s are the best turbo motors,,
    It´s been done so many times,

    10psi = 350hp at least
    15psi 430hp

    Finding a 745i engine would of course be ideal,, already ready for 500hp

      Yup. I saw one at the Bav Auto Show and Shine last fall. I believe it was done by Dinan. It was a pretty tiny turbo, with low boost and the car was an automatic. :roll: But it was pretty cool to see it done. Seems like a much better option for the ix' than dealing with swapping in another engine and trying to hook up the transfer case and $hit.

      As to why there aren't a ton of m30 e30's around, or in the USA at least, aren't they a bitch to swap over into our cars? If I recall correctly, you have to custom fabricate motormounts and possible a driveshaft. It would make for a quick car though. Hmmm, now you've got me thinking...there's a e28 535is with a blown headgasget at my mechanic's shop that he's parting out. Low-compression turbo rebuild anyone? :twisted:

        you use the m20 motor mount brackets and the tranny lines up the same, I was also curious about using an m20 oil pan on an m50 as i've heard they are a very similar cast, it probably wouldn't clear the oil pump though. :idea: run a dry sump m50 325ix!

              iX drivetrain

              This really deserves it's own thread but here goes..
              As an iX owner I've researched this a bit and I can tell you that the transfer case itself is not the problem. The splines on the front driveshaft where it connects to the transfer case is the problem. The more exotic solutions involve cutting of the splines and welding on a longer spline section, the one I will do on mine this summer is to use washers on the guibo bolts to make the driveshaft extend further into the transfer case. Just as a preventive and easy to do measure, I'm doing some maintenance on the gearbox and transfer case so while everything is out I might as well..

              As for slapping a turbo system onto the M20, I'm not up to it. Regulations here in Sweden is too much hassle for me to bother with removing the turbo system each year for the annual check-up. If you have a car manufactured 1975 or earlier then you can do whatever you want unless your engine looks too kick-ass.
              But other people have done this, I've seen several around. An engine swap is totally ok as long as you're willing to do some DIY-modifications to the oil pan, this usually involves taking a good part of the M20 iX oil pan and welding it to the oil pan of the new engine. A guy I know has an S50 in his iX, now that's a sweeet car. :)

                Every day driver.

                I drive it every day. I do not have A/C so I use that fan, It runs off the stock sensors in the Radiator. And I just leave the A/C switch on all the time.

                NO I do not Have A cluch fan or power steering. (by choice)

                          it so happens that my dad bought a benz and his 735 is going to my sis maybe i can trade my sis my car or better yet swap the motor.....the con is that i dont know what parts i need to do the swap.......

                            Make sure your buy the 7er of your sister and get here a e30 of her own,,

                            Then stuff the M30 into your car and turbo parts from a 745i should be ideal,,

                              People say that the 745i with original turbo is good for 400 hp, that's when the turbo runs out of steam (turbine or compressor, I don't know). With that said, get a better turbo and bigger fuel injectors. Imagine that in an E30 :)

                                there is a kid i have met with an ix who is currently in the process of turboing his m20. he bought a turboed 325i and is parting it out and using the trubo setup. he hope about 275, if i recall. i dunno where he is along or really who he is. i will ask my freind if he knows how far along the project is. it seems to me that it would be fast as hell but maybe not so reliable
