    Starter problems still!

So I've got m50 with eta transmission, i was running s50 flywheel/clutch and starter. I had a very bad squeal when the engine turned over and then when it started it went away, so more noise. I figured it was just incompatible with the e trans. so,

I pulled the transmission (which was good as i found out I had the wrong pilot bearing) and installed a 325i single mass flywheel and clutch, and put in my old e starter (the big one).

I figured this would take care of my noise problem. Well, it got a lot worse and I have no idea how. I shaved the oil pan I know its not hitting. When I turn it over it makes a horrible gear mesh noise but once started it sounds perfect. I have no idea whats going on here.

Wow, thats funny. I just replaced my pilot bearing last night too (had the wrong one as well.) and now i have a starter squeal. Im using the 260 with all s50 parts. I have had the transmission out of this fucker three times and its gone back together with no problems, no noises, etc. Im going to mess around with it at work today. It has to be an alignment issue. Either way ill let you know if i find anything because it sounds as if we have the exact same thing going on.

damn.. ok, well I really thought I was the only one with this problem. I figured I couldnt have that much bad luck for two flywheel and starters to do the exact same thing. I hope you can shed some light cause Ive been clueless for the past few months.

I didnt get to it today because somehow my reverse light wires got tangled up in the driveshaft and took out the output shaft seal! It was amazing. I really hate my car right now.

But I have the day off tomorrow and ill work on the starter issue.

I got mine fixed. I have no dowel pins in my engine and I still have the metal plate between the engine and trans. The plate wasnt centered correctly and it caused my starter to mount lower inside the belhousing making the starter gear very close to the flywheel. I had it so bad that the starter was mounted low enough to slam the flywheel and not even turn over.

I cut away the plate and made sure the starter was up high enough to engage the flywheel. Works fine now. Only I didnt have to put another flywheel and starter in. m20 clutch=no fun

I got mine fixed today as well! I had to have a friend hold the starter in place while i tightened down the bolts.
