    Rough idle while wait for green light.

    It started to have rough idle while I wait for light to change. I often put auto tranny into N to keep smooth engine also if I put in park, run fine. Then I put D become rough idle. Any idea?

    Anyway, I took 325es to emission test and it failed! Because the rpm is high standard 220 rpm. But the report said engine ran around 500 rpm. How do I make it go lower to the standard emission of 220 rpm but impossible because engine died? I wonder do i have to replace any sensor that will make engine run with lower rpm? Please help me.

    I assume you mean PPM, not RPM. Try getting the car nice and warm, run some fuel system cleaner through it, replace the O2 sensor. What PPM are you referring to?

        Clean the ICV, check the idle control srew and cheak if this problem come when you put at on the heater..(i have the same probleme same time...but me i think is my gaz line that leak...)

            Same model car 1986 325eS 5 spd... same engine.

            ICV is the squared part.

              yes. easy to clean. Just take a carburator cleaner in spay.
              Normaly that solve the problem.

                      I know! Sigh.. I think I need to clean up ICV and hope it will solve it. By the way its not PPM its RPM :roll:

                        Wait... what normally does a well Eta idle at?

                        Mine idles somtimes 500 rpm and sometimes a bit lower like 470ish

                          Ok, if you mean PPM (Parts Per Million), that is the way the emissions are read. Parts Per Million of "pollutants" in your exhaust.
                          With the car giving off 500 PPM instead of 220 PPM, that basically means you need a tune-up and a new catalytic converter.

                          I don't know of too many engines that can stay running at 220 RPM ;) Your idle should be set to 750-850 RPM.

                            I really don't understand why smog inspection's policy said (220) When I put park and engine idling and I could see monitor said 400 to 550 but bottom of monitor said (Standard 220 required) then I was told that my smog is failed! Oh mother#$^&%@#$. Last two years no problem but why now?

                              Catalytic converters can just clog up like that, for years they will be fine, but then they go bad quick.

                              Don't confuse RPM (number of times engine turns over) for PPM, (parts per million) Set your RPM to around 800, The smog needs to read 220 PPM out of your exhaust.
