    Replacing motor mounts

    Well, looks like one of my motor mounts is broken, so I'm replacing both of them. I am using the floor-jack + piece-of-wood method I suppose, unless anybody has a better idea.

    Is there anything I need to disconnect before I start jacking up the motor?

      Just watch out for the engine ground on the driver's side.

        Yea, jack it up, it should work. I did that, and just had to have a couple friends tilt my engine so I could get the engine mounts in just right. Keep an eye on everything, if its getting caught, it will start to lift the car!

          Don't forget to leave the hood open. I dented my own hood from the inside out. Not my proudest moment.

            Nice.

            Reminds me of when I was cutting a space in my hood for a vent and I forgot to cover the windshield. For the next few years, I had about a hundred little pits on the windshield.

              God damn. How do you get the top nut off the driver's side motor mount?? There is just enough room for a wrench, but not enough room to give it any torque. What did you guys do?

                Extensions on a socket if I recall correctly.

                  You need a long extension.

                  Also, watch the fan on the radiator depending on how high you lift the motor.

                    I usually just pop off the shroud, and if you have a strut brace take that off.

                      Where are you jacking against the bottom of the motor? Oil pan?

                        ^^ Ohh man, I'd go with the transmission-motor interface instead, unless your oil pan gasket is brand new. Otherwise you might be buying yourself into another job!
