RB20, 25 etc will not fit without a recessed firewall or extensive radiator modification. the gearbox however is fairly close. Tryed my brothers rb that was lying around and was a no go! Go the SR if anything nissan.

If he's right we can settle that.

SR20DET's run about $1500 for engine/tranny/ecu on ebay. There "low milage" and from Japan. Thats pretty cheap, but take it for what its worth.

I found a write up by some fella who put an SR20DET in his 87 318 but pages were missing.
sr20 price has at least douled since the drift/silvia craze hit the us... no longer worth the money in my opinion... you could get a clip for like 1200 bucks two years ago now your looking at 5k plus.. and i would avoid ebay SRs like the plauge.... i have alot of friends with srs and ka-t powered cars

forums.240sxone.com would be a great place for no BS info about ka and sr motors

            Why not a Supra Engine?? A 1JZ or 2JZ-GTE
Plently of High HP ones in the state, and I know they fit 'cause my E30 has one!!

yeah ive seen a few rotary powered e30s over here too. pretty impressive, but i could never live with the sound a wankel personally.

if it were me, id go the SR over an RB. granted, the RB can make more power, but how much power do you really need in an e30 chassis? keep the weight down, get the SR with its alloy block, thoow on a few bolt on mods and roll in one helluva sleeper.

hey man, ive got a '91 318is, standard as of yet till i have money to throw at it.. first thing ill get is bucket seats to replace that ugly tweed color :( not to mention my drivers seat is S.C.R.E.W.E.D (twisted to the left, stuck down reclined lol)

youve got an is too do you?

If you know where to shop you can get a RB clip for 5 grand but if you look in the right places you can still get a S13 clip for 1500 to 2500. And buying a whole motor of the bastard-bay is like russian roulette! I have heard horror stories of spun berings and butchered wiring harnesses.
My argument is an sr20 is the best engine for the price range I (or anyone in a similar situation) am in.

I chose the 1JZ because of price (over a BMW engine), I got 2 engines, 5spd box Loom & ECU for $2300NZ (thats about $1300US), cheapest way to 300rwhp!!

I am no more an expert on it then I am an expert on craming an sr20 in it.
Search DTM, there is a long thread by a gentelman in seatle who is installing an LS6 in his E30 M3.

A sr20 would be very cool. How much weight would you think you would save swapping that? There is an endless list of aftermarket support for those motors, and its easy to squeeze out about 400hp.

the beauty of the SR or most other factory turbos is the easy ability to make big numbers safely and reliably.....there will always be someone out there who has done it before! esp here in nz there are shitloads of SR's.....not that that helps you! im pretty sure the RB25 doesnt fit......i know def the RB26DETT doesnt and they v similar sizes....so would be extrememly front heavy anyway. i know a guy who has put a RB20DET in....IMO not worth it at all but meh......his powersteering blew up and his engine bay caught fire 2 weeks after he got it back (after waiting 3+ months for it to get done) i didnt realise the SR came with an alloy block too? cos that would be awesome....4cylinders...like the m3 (i know its a far stretch but hey!) i like the whole idea....go for it!

Well, I may take this into consideration for the motor on the widebody. So now its down to M30, Stroked M20, or SR20

a 13B would make a hell of a fun project on an e30. But it has to be a boosted 13B, or else you'd be losing power.

                                I'd shit a brick for an e30 with a 20B though. 8)
