I have a 84 318i that just begs for the red line, it is original 333000 miles. I was wondering why the damn thing bugs out from 2800 to 4000 rpms then rockets to 6300, and can I remove the rev limter safely and spin 7000?

Ya it will take longer to get where your going for sure. I drove my 318i to school one day and it took me ruffly 45 mins where as with the 325is it ussualy takes 33~ mins. But I got stuck behind some traffic and what not. The 318i is fun as it will still cruise at 85-90 on the intestate but that's around 5500 rpm's or so. I should start driving my 318i around to save gas but the 325is is just so much more fun as there is some power behind the engine.

funny how that works isnt it. when im accelerating im always chanting...."come on just hit 4 grand, just 4 grand, you can do it, come on". all the power is after 4 grand. oh and one thing i did not mention: get some comfortable seats, cause its gonna take alot longer to get to your destination!

Supposedly its got sport seats. The guy put those in and a IS lipspoiler on the back. Might jack that for the Eta if I buy the car.
          Im now E30less.

Is there a possiblilty of making a stroked M10, or even boring it out and putting larger pistons in? Ive been thinking economy lately, and i was wondering about an earlier 318i as a DD to college.
It has the potential, but its is most definatly not cost effective. There are lots of Turbo M10 2002's out there putting down crazy power, and ofcourse, theres the fact that BMW took them M10 and turned it into a 1200hp beast for racing....

But you'd have to be a millionaire, or close to it if you wanted to do it.... just not practicle.

The 4.10 LSD was never a factory option for the 84 318. Crawl under your car and there will be a small metal tag (about the size of half of your pinky finger) on the upper left of the diff. It will have a number imprinted on it.

Not to mention that I get ~38-40mpg when cruising at 75. And no, I'm not reading it from that stupid mpg gauge, it's from calculation.

Take you longer to get where you're going?

Don't be ridiculous. They're slow, but they're not limited to 25mph or some shit.

                            diff

I wonder what diff I have I have to do some brake work tonight so I will clean off my diff and take a look.

I have seen that some of you guys get 35 mpg and some all the way down to 24 mpg, I got 26 before I started using my A/C then it dropped to about 24.5. My stupiod odometer has quit so I have o go by the OBC that I feel is quite accurate.

Why do some people get great milage and some, like me, not so great.

I think I went 25 miles to church the other day doing liek 85 mph and when I got there my tank was liek half gone form having been full!

The OBC isn't very accurate, or at least most of them aren't. You have an OBC in your '84 318?

Yes, the orginal owner had the car for seven years, my great grand father bought it when he was 70, 13 years ago and I bought it 5 months ago.
