Anyone have any experience with this. I usually just take the whole unit out but with my current car I need it since I will be moving farther south. THanks.

i just got my system recharged yesterday with R12.. cost me 200 bucks
the dude made is sound like converting to r134 would be more expensive, hardware wise... and that it would not get as cold as the R12.. he seemed like he knew what he was talking about, but you never know...
i'd be interested in seeing the 'how to'...stop drinking all that beer and get on it!!! 8)

In some cases you need to change alot of stuff, like hoses, the compressor and drier for it to function perfectly.
Before I knew anything about a/c, I replaced my leaking condensor, pulled a vacuum and just charged it with 134a, without changing the dryer or measuring the refrigrant. That was over a year ago and the a/c blows cold on the highway and when the temp is below 85 around town.
But in traffic, when its over 90, it doesn't work too well.
You can still get R12, we use it all the time in my shop. It's about $30 for 12oz, you'll probably need 3 cans. It may be more cost effective to have a shop charge it with 12, rather than pay for a drier.

Funny thead.
I have a 1990 325iS and just today i got my old system AC filled with the DURACOOL cans u guys mentioned, and it works like a charm. Two cans, and 40$cdn later, my AC was blowingpretty damn cold. I just hpe that the system itself doesn't have any leaks/mulfuctions I do not currently know about.... Definitely worth it to me... ;)1991 BMW ///M5 .:Black on Black:. - Modded
