I wouldn't bend it, just because you'll have to do it a couple more times, and it will eventually fatigue and break. I've gotten mine out a few times so, here's what I did...

First time, I got so pissed off, I throw the hanger out and used a hose clamp.. That was on my brother's old car.. still hanging, no problem.

Here's another way: Rotate the pass side hanger 90 degrees ( the dimples facing up/down instead of sideways), slide it over the top bracket, then hang the exhaust bracket as best you can, then rotate it back; spray some lube, slide the muffler around, kick it up and down, it'll slide into the correct position. It's still a bitch, but it worked for me.

On the driver side hanger, get the wheel off obviously, use 2 serious flat screw-drivers to stretch the rubber around the lower bracket.. You get one screw-driver in, stretch, use the second to advance another 1/2 inch, then get the first one out, and advance another 1/2 inch.. and keep going 'til you're done.

I got em in there thanks to all your help. I ended up using the bending method. I just bent 1 ear of the muffler side bracket out 90 degrees and it slid on really easy with just my hands once on there just bent it back and viola, its done. I would have done this another way If I knew I was going to have to install these brackets again but I'm really just waiting for the spec e30 exhaust to be manufactured and then I will be switching over to that, and using some better hangers. thanks again guys, couldn't have done it without you.
