    Oil filter housing gasket

Does the oil housing (to the block) gasket need permatex or silicone? My new rebuild has a slight oil leak and it might be from that area. When I reattched oil filter housing unit I used silicone plus the gasket. Was wondering if I messed it up. Thanks..

Neither Permatex nor silicone should be necessary for a seal, but either would be ok to use.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

gasket? the housing uses an o-ring. no sealer should be neccesary - but the o-ring is a bitch to put on, so it's possible you didn't get it on there right.

        o-ring

        O - ring ( part#8) goes on here

plus the gasket (part#9). Not the o-ring for the bolt on filter top. Gotta fine the mini oil leak first. Could be front crank seall too. Wish I had heating in my NY garage. Getting cold. Didn't use permatex on seal..onmly gasket.
