Go BITCH! hahaha, PMSing engine w/ M30 AFM

So I put on the M30 AFM on my car, and it's fucking rediculous trying to drive it. Sometimes when I press the pedal, nothing happens. Other times it suddenly surges forward finally.....

Driving it more, it gets better, but I'm just glad my SO was understanding and found humor in it. Of course, she ended up driving her own car later. Almost got whip-lash from surging forward, cutting out.

I'm just wondering if the Check Engine light will ever go out......

I have a M20 AFM circuit board in a spare one, but the screws are bitches and strip. If it doesn't cure by Monday, or the CE is still lit, I'll try by best to get past the screws.

Anyone else put the M30 AFM in and have to have it adjust, how long does it take?

DOn't drive it! the Afm goes supper lean when it's surging and can cuase engine damage. You'll need to change the circuit board, that surging is a sign of the board not being compatiable. My car did the same thing when I took an E36 MAF and wired it driectly in, according to my AFR guage I was going realy lean at WOT and was puffing black smoke at idle from being to rich.

That's what I was thinking. But someone told me it just needs to adapt.....and to give it time.

But I started it back up this morning, and it stalled twice trying to drive off, so fuck it, I'm putting the stock back in. Until I can get the M20 electronics in there.

edit: took 5 minutes after work and re-installed stock shit.
only drove car about ~5-10 milles, maybe 20 max with M30 AFM.
I didn't think it was okay really, but someone older and more invovled with BMWs said it needed time to adjust, so I gave it a try.

I'll spend time tommorrow fighting stripped screws and swapping electronics so it will work.

Dude, I had the same problem when i Installed my M30 AFM and Injectors. It seems like the 1.1motronic ECU (153), takes the longest to adapt to these changes. It took me 200 miles to actually feel a difference and improvement from what power I had lost.

yeah. Todd used one without swapping electronics and said it was plug and play.

Saul, I don't want to drive my car that long. It is torture for both of us to drive it like it is.

Well it was just slow for a while, and when I had hit the WOT it didnt pull really...My car is actually running great right now.

It isnt just slow for me. It doesn't go at all, and then surges. I fight it to go and etc. Not good.

Supposedly, it's only plug and play if you got an afm from a later m30 engine.

I had the same problem before I swapped the electronics and spring. I also had to glue part of my chip in because i stripped a couple screws :(

                    Works great now.

I know for sure that a M30 AFM that ends in 027 is the plug and play.On my 87 325is it took about a week for the check engine light to go out and run nice and smooth.Probably 300+ miles. On my brothers 90 325is it never came on but ran a bit rough for about a day.We are both chipped differently though so I dont know what that does to the break in period.
                      Both M30 AFM ended in 027 were from a 87 535is and a 91 735il.Both those cars still use the M30.

Yes, all of the m30 afms end in 027, but it is a slightly different on the later m30 engines.

Negative. Not all M30 have the 027 AFM.Trust me I part out 30+ cars a year just look at my ebay profile 680+ total BMW transactions. If its an 027 from 87 its the same exact same part as a 027 from 91....just newer chronologicaly.

Just reaffirming that the 027 is the correct M30 afm to use with our cars.
