HELP with Fuel Pump Hard-Wire (PIC inside)...

There are two harnesses that go to the top of the Fuel Pump -- one with 2 wires (12 o'clock in pic) and one with 3 wires (disconnected in pic)...I tried hard wiring the 3-wired harness directly to the battery to see if it would turn on...started smoking and no sound -- I'm guessing that's the relay-connected harness?

    Any ideas? Help?

    Thanks in advance!

The loose connector in the picture is for the level sensor. The smaller two wire connector that's still plugged in is for the fuel pump.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

So the 2-wired harness is for the pump...there is a red wire and a green wire...neither is getting 12v continuous or with aCC on... which one is ground?

K...ran a wire directly to the battery...so it's obviously hot...grounded it (with a multi-tester) on each of the two wires in the FP harness...and BOTH acted as grounds, generating 12v + ...now how in the hell is one them not a ground? $%!$!@$@#!

You have just succeeded in making your fuel level sender extremely unhappy. May as well remove the four nuts holding it in and chuck it and go get a new one now.

What in the hell are you trying to do besides break stuff/engulf your car in flame if you don't mind me asking? WHY would anyone want to hotwire a transfer pump is beyond me.

BTW the pumps only run when the engine is turning= cranking or running.

Brown should be ground and green/violet should be the +12 from fuse 11.

Does it matter if the two wires are reversed on the pump? The original plug was hacked on mine, it works/runs now. I'd go outside to look which is on which side but its fuckin cold.

Well Dave - No, I wasn't trying to break stuff or engulf my car in a single flame. .
And I just love wiring transfer pumps, it's an ol' past time of mine.

Ok, thought it was an odd hobby. What is your car doing/not doing/sometimes doing/sometimes not doing/doing on Wednesdays that your trying to change?
