differences between bmw motors - auto vs man - not just e30

So I'm shopping around for a m30 motor, it's becomming a pain in that ass.

Does anyone know if BMW (espically on the M30 or just in general) makes any changes to their motors for auto cars vs. the manual cars? such as a weaker crank shaft on a auto car, or anything else internal?

    Thanks!

I don't think so. if they did then people wouldn't be able to do manual swaps.. also, it would probably cost BMW more to build different engines for each transmission that it would to just make one. Remember BMW's middle inital stands for Motor, it wouldn't make sense for them to skimp in that department just because of tranny selection (we all know how popular the auto is in the USA).

All be the same for auto and manual. Some of the M30 block castings are different for mounting in different cars, super early ones have bad cylender heads that crack, really late ones have more aggressive cams and better motronic systems, but for the most part they went on unchanged for decades.

        **cough** E36 M3 automatic. :?

From FS ads, people say that an automatic engine would have been abused less. Which is probably true.

what are you trying to say? the automatic M3 motor is the same as the 5 speed AFAIK.. and the thing about auto engines not being hammered on is total BS, I can tag the rev limiter all day in my auto if I want to.

NOTE: E36 M3s equipped with the ZF five-speed automatic transmission are rated at 225 lb/ft of torque at 3,800rpm.
