    Welding question

I have a new Stromung muffler and I need to modify a small support strap across the back of the pipes on it. The part is stainless steel. I have a 120v Hobart mig. I know this is probably an elementary question for trained welders however I am not one. Can I use general purpose wire for a small weld on SS? The part is about 1/8" thick and I have access to all sides.

    Thanks

I used my Lincoln 110 mig on the OBDII stainless header without any problems. No gas, shielded wire. A little more spatter than mild steel but still a good weld. You should have not problem unless it's much different alloy than the stainless on the OBDII headers.

Go for it, it wont pass an aerospace test, but it will hold fine for a muffler hanger.
