    sunroof motor gear problem

    Hi all.

    I have a sunroof problem.

The motor works. But the roof won't move. I removed the access door and saw that the motor was loose. If I hold the motor in a certain place, I can get the roof to move up and down (not very well... it seems one side goes higher than the other).

I removed all the screws and check panel from the headliner panel, and was able to move the panel down a few inches. That enabled me to see a loose Phillips screw which I tightened. The motor is tight now, but when it turns, the gear just clicks.

I want to remove the headliner panel, and I know that the sunroof has to be partially open to do this. How do you get the motor to change from raise/lower to slide in/out?

    Thanks.

Sounds like a pickle to me, can't help you much, but you could convert to manual sunroof if you dig the classy, old-school e30-manual sunroof thing.

    I do

Well, whatever I do I first need to find out how to retract the sunroof...

Ok, I lowered the panel some more and I got the motor out. I'm beginning to understand how the "click" works with the gear sensor. The motor was missing a mounting screw, so I will get that and try to figure out in what gear position to reattach the motor. If anyone has something to add, please chime in.

        Thanks.
