    widebans install Q

i dont want to run wires through the firewall for the wideband (im going with ms with a custom harness made by rs4pro)

what wires coming from the stock o2 sensor are usable with a wideband? heater, signal, 12v power, 12v switch power, ect....

any help is greatly appreciated! thanks

    ps its a 4 wire o2 sensor for a 90 325is

Don't half ass it. Just run the wires it will take an extra 20 minutes.

if the wires are already ran through the firewall, in good condition, already connected to the ms and i dont have to hack my ms wiring harness why would i?

      thanks for the help though

i dont know about yours but my wideband has about 6+ wires on it... to me if youre gonna have to run the other wires back through the firewall may as well run the other wires through

I ran mine through the shifter boot.

running them through the stock connector makes sense - you can use the O2 heater relay by triggering it with the same MS pin as the FP relay, and the grounds for the stock O2 sensor will give you a good solid signal. I wouldn't call that "half assing" it at all.

you don't need the extra wires - one of them is for calibration, and the other is a second output (gauge or whatever you want it for)

exactly, thank you. now which wire do i cut going to the stock wiring harness to get the signal and heater to control properly?

and a gauge is for thew kids who like flashing lights. my ms reads it better than i do lol

you don't have to cut anything - if you have an old O2 sensor, cut off the plug and connect your WB controller to it. I don't know the pinout off the top of my head (the wire colors on the plug are different from the engine harness), but two wires are ground, one is for the heater, and the other is for the signal. then you ground pin 85 of the O2 heater relay (connecting motronic pin 23 to MS pin 37). the O2 sensor signal is motronic pin 28 (black wire), the ground is motronic pin 10 (brown wire).

Isn't the stock sensor a narrow-band sensor? Or are all sensors the same, it just depends on how you read their output?

There are different sensors, he just wants to use the wiring instead of running new wires.

Ah, I see. He is going to change the sensor, but keep the stock wiring.

                        What wideband are you using?
This is how I wire up an lc-1 to the stock harness

                        • Connect the Red wire from the Lc-1 to the Green/Blue wire going to the stock O2 sensor plug
                        • Connect both the Blue and the White wire from the Lc-1 to the Brown wire going to pin 3 of your stock O2 sensor plug
                        • Connect the Brown wire from the Lc-1 to the black wire going to pin 2 of your stock O2 sensor plug

Then at the o2 heater relay ground the brown/green wire coming from pin 85 on the relay
