    Getting CSB off driveshaft

After a good bit of wrangling, i got the driveshaft out. I've been trying to remove the CSB from the front drive shaft but my GOD this thing doesnt want to come off... I've removed the circlip, and the front/rear plates were apparently never installed, so the only thing on there is the bearing and it's mount....how the hell does this thing come off?

the pelican parts article is no help.

A press comes readily to mind.

If the failure of the CSB was failure of the rubber mount it is almost a certainty that the u-joints in the drive shaft are binding, which is what almost always causes the CSB mount to fail. If the u-joints don't move freely you need to replace the drive shaft or you'll very soon be replacing the CSB again.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

What jlevie said. Unless you're sure the CSB failed on its own don't worry about getting it off and just buy a complete new/rebuilt driveshaft with the new CSB already on it.

before you jump on the bandwagon of thinking its your u-joints, check them while the driveshaft is out. move them around in all directions and if you feel any little notch then they are bad. one trick i have learned it to lighty tap the u-joint with a ball pein hammer while the u-joint is on the table. it usually frees up those little notches. if that doesnt work then you need a new shaft.

and if you are still having trouble with the bearing, either put it in a vise and tap it off with a hammer and punch. if you dont have a vise have a buddy stand on it and do as stated above.

        good luck

            here's what i did

Get a monkey wrench and put it above the bearing and tap on the nose of the wrench going from one side to the next- it will eventually push the bearing off nicely.

Well I'm glad to here that everything went well. And its good that you have expirienced it by doing it yourself. Most people just pull the driveshaft and take it to a shop to get it done. This way you know how to do it and that's a good thing.

The next things is doing your wheel bearings, now those are fun.

i actually took a long 3/8ths inch extension and a hammer and tapped the bearing off. worked quickly.

You can use a 3 jaw puller. Just cut the rubber, so the outer part comes off, put the puller on the bearing, and give it a few turns. It will slide right off. 3 minutes tops.

                  But your method works too!

                    update...

vibration is not gone. I just got done replacing the rear rotors in an attempt to get rid of this vibration but no luck.

i swear to god this is the most annoying POS ever.

Did you preload the bearing when you put it up to the car?

yea i pushed it forward as far as i could when tightening it down...there are relatively long slots in the CSB for that direction of movement, but even when pushing as hard as i could. i was only able to move it about 1 to 2 cm forward before tightening it down.

I did notice that the bearing sits in a sleeve of sorts, and was pushed all the way to the back (towards the rear of the car).

The preload is supposed to be 4-6mm IIRC.

Most of the time the CSB should just push foreward. That's off that you still have a shake.

                            Is it related to rpms?

I used a good ol' air hammer to get the old bearing off, then used it as a driver to put the new bearing in....I took mine to a shop as well to get checked out to see if the u-joints were alright and to get it balanced.
