    LR Power window Problem Help!!

Ok, so a while back i realized that the left rear window on my foor door iX wasn't working anymore. didn't mind it too much since it was winter, but now it's getting hot.

At first i thought it was the switch. compared the switches with working ones and no luck there. So then i removed the window regulator (91 model so newer electric regulator) and tested it via direct power. The regulator works via the battery but not via switch. Then i tested the line going to the regulator on the door with a known working switch. when the button "up" is pressed, i have power, but when pressed "down" nothing. I am stumped, and i don't know what to check.

All the other windows work fine, and all the cutoff switches are set to work. anything would be great.

    Yo, Doc, got a testlight?

If not, get one, no funky shit, just a damn lightbulb style testlight.

Pull the door panel, get to the motor wires. Should be like purple adn brown or some shit, you already know where they are.

Hook the clip (of the testlight) to +12V so when you touch the probe to ground, it lights up.

Ok, now test the motor wires. With the key on (or off) you should show ground on both motor wires. With the key on, you should show positive when you push the switch ON ONE WIRE ONLY...as in both wires "rest" on ground, then switch to positive when either "up" or "down" is pressed.

This type of circuit is called "voltage reversal" BTW.

So, if you do not have proper switching (and you wont) it is now time to check the other end. Pop that shift boot, pop the switch out and do the same test.

Now, use you brain: good at switch, bad at motor? Bad wiring, test in door jamb.

Bad at switch? Check power and ground, if fail, fix it, if good, bad switch OR connector...basic diagnostic principle from here.

So yeah, go kick its ass!
