    Bought a 318, need advice!!!!!

hey guys, bought a 1985 318i, has a few issues. When I am driving very slow, like 4-5 mph, and swerve back and forth drastically, there is a horrible grinding noise from the rear, but in normal driving it does not happen. If any one can help me out, that would be great! It has a limited slip rearend.

advise: you should never buy an m10 car!! unless it is the powerful varient, the s14.

I have an 84 318i and I drove with the 90 hp four cylinder for about 6 months and have now swapped to the m50.

The LSD is pretty good on mine as well, got me messed up twice in the rain.

Rear wheel bearing maybe. Do you feel a vibration at other speeds? Also climb under there and check all the suspension and bushings and make sure nothing is rubbing. When you swerve back and forth and throw the weight around it can cause things to rub if bushings are bad.

What is wrong with an M10? So you don't like 2002s either? What do you actually know about them? Why don't you eat a big bowl of dicks and shut the fuck up.

Bimmerboy, check the driveshaft centerbearing and flex disk as well. Also, check the differential, subframe, and trailling arm bushings.

              What's wrong with the M42? That's a 4-cyl varient...

I second this, as well as Trent's "big bowl of dicks"motion.

change the differential fluid... Use either blended or synthetic and noise will go away

                      car

If i change the fluid, do I need to add that limited slip additive? I know I had to put it in my camaro when i had it and it sounded like hell until I did. dont know if this is the case with bimmers

No need to get the additive. Just get the correct specified oil. Its listed in the Bentley...I forget the specs on the oil but someone else will chime in on the exact one needed or I will post it later when I get home

the m42 is in a class of its own. Loved by few, misunderstood & unappreciated by most.
