It may be a motorsport emblem for a motorcycle, retrofitted! ;)
'89 "is" = M technic II build mode.

By the way, OE knobs could easily have been made in England, as a whole of parts on e30's are made all over Europe (Austria, Spain, Italy, England, and maybe few others)
Yeah I have no doubt it's not from that car. It just felt like it was during removal. But like I said, that could be for several reasons. Maybe it was glued on. Thanks for the info on the parts manufacturing.

I am just dying to know where it came from and how rare it is. Sorry for coming off like a dick in my last post.

With that said, if anyone knows anything about this, please share. I am coming up with nothing thus far. And I really don't want to wait to contact NJ and wait for a response.

Where might that have been originally equipped on a bike? The one emblem somebody pointed out earlier was over 2" across. And I owned an air head before. The only emblems it had were on the tank. So I don't know where it would have been on there. I'm so lost right now.

Auction it, honestly. One way or another among the entire BMW community, you'll be able to find some one who wants it bad enough.

If memory serves me correctly, 3.0's, 2002's, and other BMW's of that era used screw on shift knobs. If this one was pressed on in an E28 or E34.... then there is the answer on how genuine it is.

              True. We'll see.

I double checked it and it is a push on. No sign of threads ever. But there appears to be a retaining clip inside.

My 74 e3 had a push on knob with about 1/2 wide spline.
