Turning torque converter?

Well I have most of the tranny undone, but I need to spin the torque converter to get all the bolts off that. Is turning the main front crank bolt the only way? I tried spinning the tranny output shaft but that didn't work, no matter what gear it was in.

toss a wrench on the alternator nut

that is what i use to turn the crank for valve adjustment
