tick tock goes the lifters - NOISEY! Help

    Hey

i find that my enging is quite loud... seems to me that it is the lifters..

probably a pretty common thing on e30's, right? lol

any suggestions on what to do to quiet the engine down (while idling..)

Some ticking is totally normal. If you want, adjust the valves. It's super easy. Look in your manual.

      Valve adjustment

Valve adjustments aren't the answer to all of the noise issues with the m20. There are a couple of other things that could be giving you problems. If your valve eccentrics are worn, the valve adjustment won't be as effective as it would be if they were true. They can slip out of adjustment and cause noise.

You could also be hearing noise from your fuel injectors.

you can add pretty much any wear to the above. Rocker shafts, valve stems, all contribute to hammering. Good one ive seen is both the eccentric and the valve worn uneven, so setting the clearence isnt accurate even though its tight on the feeler gauge.
Just a little project im working on

This would be what I would address first, new ones are not expensive and it makes a load of difference.

the little round pieces of metal that are held by a nut on the tip of the rocker. They are adjusted by loosening the nut and rotating. They are what the top of the valve stem contacts.
