    Differential Questions....why not in FAQ?

I was looking in the FAQ section and was hoping to find these ansewrs.

    - What differntials come in what e30's

    - Are all e30 differentials the same (size/fitment wise)

    - Are the half axels the same size

the reason why i am asking is because my friendis going to swap the whole rear end (differential/half axels/control arms/brakes etc.) from another e30 into his 86 325es. Anything we should worry about or look into?

    thanks

because most people ask mr google first.

and note from experience this part is incorrect (Mitch and I actually had the calipers out measuring a 323i small diff vs a 325e large diff)....

An important thing to bear in mind about swapping is that six- and four-cylinder E30 BMW differentials are different and will not interchange. The housings and rear axle carriers are totally different. Interchangeability only exists among four-cylinder cars and six-cylinder cars separately.
the flanges for the small vs large may or may not need changing depending on models.

Why is he doing this??? Also, the only advantage would be a 325i (3.73 or 4.10) differential but those are kind of short gears for an ETA.

eta you just want a 3.25 for a mostly stock engine, if you've touched the cam then you want a 3.46 or slightly higher.

why hes doing this? Simple...he just got his license and he's been having fun drifting and one went wrong and slammed his right wheel into the curb and pretty much fucked alot of things in there.
