    Valve Adjustment? Parts needed?

i was reading a few online guides and it said that a particular part has to be replaced everytime you do a valve adjustment.

Then talking to a friend he said it depends on whether its rubber, or cork..

Is there any real way to tell what i have beforehand? i don't want to open it up and find out that i am gonna need to replace it, and then wait a week for the part to get here, leaving my car off the road :-/.

what is this part they were talking about, by the way..

It's called a gasket. You'll need a new one when you put the valve cover back on. If you're unure about what parts you'll need (especially the gasket), I'm not sure that you should be adjusting your valves.

, i'm tired, lazy, and don't know alot about cars. Thats why i'm learning on mine. i have a bentley manual, and an online parts lookup. i'll figure it out.

supposedly there's one made of cork and one made of rubber, and if you have one of them you don't need to replace the gasket.. from what i hear.

you can reuse the rubber one 3-4 times, but after a while the sillicone bead on it will break apart and it will start leaking.

if you're just pulling the cover to work on it, its cool. but when you've pulled it morce than once, or its been on for a while, replace it. im sure to be banned now.

You'll need a new Valve Cover Gasket, and 4 new rubber End-Caps - they're shaped like home plates from a baseball filed - or little houses.

If you go to the dealer, you can get both for cheap. If you tell them Valve Cover Gasket, and End-Caps for 90 325i, they'll know whathca need.
