    HELP - clutch - NOW

GO TO BOTTOM! for new info!

well my mom got in my car this morning to go to work and she said that when she pushed in the clutch it just dropped to the floor and didnt come back.
so i was like shit what did u do. so i went and checked it out when i got home from school and the pedal is on the floor (its parked) so i go to pull the pedal back out and it snaps back out. so i go to push it in, and it snaps to the floor with almost no effort at all.
so wtf is going on, i took out the panneling down there to get a better look at it and the pump thing that the clutch pedal is attached to looks ok except that the rubber seal thing at the top of it is ripped. but would that be causing this. whats going on?

here are the best pics i could get:

    clutch out

    clutch in

Replace the Clutch Master and Slave cylinders. Cost is under $100 total for both parts.

You can do this yourself, unless you are Chapel, in which case, pay out the ass for a mechanic to do it.

Slave is bolted onto the drivers side of the tranny.
Unbolt, remove, bolt in new one.

Master is a little more technical.
Buy a Bentley if you havent already.
I cant speak from experience on that one.

Yeah, slave is two 13mm nuts (may require an extension or two).

Master is a little tougher, but not bad. There's the solid line fitting (7-8mm or something) that you need an open end wrench and tiny ass hands to do at the front of the master cylinder (through the firewall). There are two (10mm I think) bolts that mount it to the pedal box and one (13mm/17mm) nut/bolt combo that hold the piston to the clutch pedal. There's also a pain in the ass connector that goes into the top of the master cylinder. It's easy to break if you're not careful.

You can find the slave by just looking at the driver's side of the tranny - it has a hose going to it. The master cylinder is the big aluminum looking thing in your pictures.

The reason the pedal pops back up and gets sucked down is that you have the clutch helper spring.

well damn, it wasnt the slave.
i just replaced it tonight and it didnt fix shit.
i guess ill start taking out the master when the damn dealer gets the part in.

anyone got more details on the master cyl removal.
thanks bill for the tips u have givin me already.

Get under the car and pull out the slave cylinder Now take a flat head screwdriver and stick it straight in threw the hole. Fell around unto the tip of the screw driver fits into the pocket on the clutch release arm. The pocket should be dead straight ahead if it is way off to the side the pivot pin is broken. I had the exact same problem The pivot pin snapped So i thought the slave went out, so I replaced it then did the master. Then noticed what had happened and I damaged the brand new slave cylinder as I drove it for bit with a nad clutch.

ok, but how far in should the screwdriver go into the tranny, and how should it feel once its in there, that is if that pivot pin is still good. What will it feel like if its bad?

and just so u know, its not even driveable right now, it feels like there is no clutch at all. Well what it really feels like is that there is no pressure in the lines, so mabye i have a pressure leak or something.... i checked the line from the resevour to the master, then the line from the master to the slave. there are no leaks in those lines. is there anything else i should check?

Just checking the obvious...but did you bleed the clutch line? You gotta do that when you replace either piece.

And the parts shouldn't have run you more than $80-90ish.

                              Ditto on the bleed job....
Improper bleeding will prevent it from working.
