My VDO oil pressure gauge is suddenly acting up -- it's pegged any time I have power -- whether or not the car is actually running. When power is off it goes back to zero. Any thoughts on whether the sensor or gauge is likely to be at fault? Any input appreciated.

sounds like it's grounding out - in that case it acts like an oil pressure switch, it's either on or off.
