find a cheap used m20b25 and toss it in, would not cost over a grand to get that car running technically

Or just get yourself a good used head from the salvage yard and swap it on there...You could probably get it for a few hundred instead of a few thousand. Do the work yourself or find a "friend" that can do it. I wouldn't junk the car... Just my .02.

Exactly, It doesn't take but a day to do the head swap. Longest part is getting the exhaust off the head. Timing belt is about 3 hours at leisure pace. Do the belt teisure and the water pump and a good time to paint anything you wanted to do while it's apart.

Good luck and I'm sure there is someone out your way that can help you out.

Dude, for $3000 you can do an engine swap. So I know you can repair or replace that M20 for a lot less. Why give up?

I decided to keep the car. im towing it home tomorrow. Ill just park it and fix it slowly. i was thinking the same thing with going to the junkyard. most of the charges is Labor. thats what sux. for the meantime ill be rolling another german car. 2001 Jetta 1.8T
time for me to do some studying
I stopped by the shop today, and looked at the car. top end is off. One tooth of the timing belt came off. thats what caused it. Luckily I was traveling at a fairly low speed when it gave out. a few of the valves tapped pistons. the only way you can tell, is cause the carbon is off of a few of the valves. 3 piston heads are slightly marred. they say its reusable. just the valves need to be replaced.
funny thing. the guy at the shop asked me to let him know if im decide to get rid of it.

Sounds like you can just pick up a new head and be set, no?

towed it home this evening. put a few dents in my valance, but thats minor. the main thing is to get it running again. I will werk on it slowly. valves just need to be replaced, as well as most of the hoses just to be safe. also a thorough cleaning of the engine bay. I'll get some pics of what happened. suprisingly, the valve springs an internals up top are really clean. No caked on oil, just on the topside of the valve cover. rocker arms and all are still silver/grey.

If you, for some insane reason, cannot fint a head near you, there is always the Euro depot. Little bit more pricey thean the junker though.
