    Driveshaft differences

    What driveshafts fit what?

    Auto vs manual?
    early cars vs later cars?
    318's vs 325's?

    Will a 84 318i driveshaft fit a 86 325?

Man there are a lot of differences. Auto shafts are shorter because of the length of the tranny. 84-85 325e uses a small flange tranny while the later cars had a bigger one...therefore the front shaft of the driveshaft and guibo were different. You can separate driveshafts and play around with combos but remember the units all need to be balanced. early 88 M3 has a different driveshaft than the later M3's, center support bearing and joint location was different. 318 shafts are very small and much longer than 325 shafts.

Hmm. I need to get a diff/driveshaft combo to work with my swap. will any diff off of an 80s style 325iA work on (any 325 of same year, differential?) Like, does the end that mates to the differential from the driveshaft sort of universial? Blah. I want a 3.73 with a nice LSD, where should I source it from to fit my 85 318i coupe? :) I don't know, someone said that the 3 series 2 and 4 door cars were the same length with different length doors... dunno about that, but if someone can clear up for me... :):

The diff input flange is the same on all E30's IIRC

          any e30 diff fits any e30 car. I have a 3.73 LSD in my 84 318i m50 right now.

The diff is also for sale.
