What to else to replace during Timing Belt replacement??

    Hey guys,

Just picked up an 87 325is this weekend and need to get some maintinence out of the way before letting it loose on the track.

First up is the timing belt/tensioner. Along with this procedure i'll be doing the water pump and all the other acc. belts.

Can you guys recommend anything else to replace while i'm doing the timing belt (to save myself labor)? I did a search yesterday and came across someone suggest cam seals (not sure on that one). I couldn't find the thread again. :?:

    Any suggestions???

Ya go ahead and do the Cam seal while your there, maybe even the Front Crank seal if you have the tools to get the Crank bolt off.

I just did this myself on my 325i a few weeks ago.

be sure you have a water pump gasket.

            I replaced the
            major cooling hoses,
            water pump,
            tensioner,
the pin and spring that attaches to the tensioner,
            thermostat,
            all accesory belts,
the rubber piece that attaches to lower
            timing cover,
            spark plugs
            and flushed the coolant.

One piece of advice I can tell you is when your putting on your accesory belts, all you have to do is put the belt around the 3/1 pulley and halfway around, say your power steering pulley and turn the crankbolt until the belt just pops on. This will save you from breaking the teeth on the adjusting clamps. Ask me how I know. :(
