    whats causing this> any ideas?

its my 88 325is. its basically got new everything. it runs perfectly 99% of the time. in fact this has only happened 3 times . i never really beat on it but if i run it up to 6500 or so once in a while it will just shut down for a split second, the check engine light will come on and then it will resume running perfectly again. as soon as it cuts out my automatic reaction is to take my foot off the gas . the car never dies, it just picks up like nothing happened and no check engine light or anything. runs great otherwise. any ideas??
i built this car for my dad and replaced almost everything a couple year ago. car has maybe 8k on it since then. so everythings fairly fresh

      Hey sweetie,
Had the same problem with my 88 325is, but it occured around 4-5k RPM. It turned out to be the TPS that was not adjusted properly, I say swap an entire assembly TB to test it.

what about your main relay? or fuel pump relay? sounds like some crazy electrical mess up to me...had this happen on my ix and my m10....it would just cut on and off like power was there, then not, then there then not...but happened more frequent then your problem? do you feel like that is what the car does when this occurs?

this is more of a once every few months type occurrence. sometimes it goes thru the full rev range with no issues. i think its what joo said. thanks

If the CEL is flashing on, there will be a stored code. That code may provide a clue as to what's happening. Have the car scanned by someone with the proper diag system (dealer or well equipped BMW indie shop).
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I might suspect a dead spot in the AFM...

Pull the codes if you can...
