First off, I'm using the m20 starter with the getrag 260 and m20 clutch and flywheel. I have 4 wires connected to the starter, a red power wire, a black wire going to the alternator, a black and yellow wire, and a black and green wire. When I turn the key to the "on" position, the starter makes noise but does not turn the engine. Am I fucked?

Well the starter is getting power and its getting a signal from the ignition to turn on. I am really really worried that my engine might be seized or something. To me, it almost sounds like the starter is trying to spin but can't for some reason. I might be planning a trip to Maine where I bought the motor.

Pull your spark plugs, put the car in neutral and spin the engine over by hand. Thats the easiest way to tell if the engine is siezed.Originally posted by BrewWell the starter is getting power and its getting a signal from the ignition to turn on. Thanks Chris, I'll try that. I'm hoping its just a wiring issue.Originally posted by UNHCLLPull your spark plugs, put the car in neutral and spin the engine over by hand. I'm sure you know, but only spin it in the direction of rotation while running. let us know how the manual crank over goes.Originally posted by BrewThanks Chris, I'll try that. I thought that I had turned it at some point. The motor was on a stand when I picked it up but the kid assured me that it ran well. Hopefully I'll be able to work something out. I feel like such a fucking idiot. Can you delete this friggin thread? I don't want to look at it'91 318is
