    Replacing M50 waterpump

Well my mom's 5er deffinately let me down last night. I was along 97 towards baltimore when the car starts running hot. I turn on the heat and it goes down some and I creep off the next exit to a gas station. Popped the hood with the car still running and I see the fan isn't spinning, great. I turn the car off, and upon closer inspection I see that the aux belt for power steering and alternator is off and there is alot of play in the fan. So I'm thinking it should just be the waterpump. But then while feeling around, oil starts coming out along with the coolant that was already spilling out.

I fear that it may be more than just the waterpump, what do you guys think? And how hard is it to change just the waterpump.

If oil came out with the coolant you are fucked. Prepare for headgasket. Make sure to have head checked for cracks.

Sounds like you lost the main serpentine belt (poor maintenance)Last I checked M50's have 2 belts. A main serpentine that runs everything except AC, and a secondary serpentine belt that runs just the AC. No main serpentine belt = no accessories, including water pump. Engines overheat really quick without a water pump.

So basicly you drove it into overheating and lost the headgasket in the process. Smooooooth.

      Have fun.

Yea I got off as soon as a saw the battery light come on I knew I needed to get off the road. This was not from poor maintenance because the waterpump had been replaced at 120k miles and it is now only at 155 and some change. Belt was off but not broken, it came off because of the water pump being broken. Car was not ran on dead hot at any point, needle barely reached the red zone. I don't have much experience with M50's so I might just let momma dukes foot the bill for this one.

M50's have frail heads. You should have shut the car off the minute that it crept past the normal operating temperature.
