    Re the gas gauge. I think the main PCB in the cluster as well as the gauge are different for early vs late gas tank systems. Swapping the gauge helps, but it still doesn't read correctly if you have a late cluster in an early car or vice versa.
    The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

      What's the difference in the way it reads then? I haven't gotten down a full tank since I got my car driveable, but so far it seems to work just fine.

        Sorry to revive an old thread, but looking for some clarity on this subject.

        What does the coding plug actually code for? I have a 327i - motronic 1.3, 885 head. Do I still need to swap the coding plug?

        Also has anyone come up with a solution for the fuel gauge issue?
