HELP! engine is stuttering and dying!

okay, so today while i was in driving around the city(low speeds), the car started sputtering and stuttering making the car look all jerky (like how it looks when people dont know how to drive stick), and then i tried to push in the clutch to give it gas and it revs up then dies. so i start it up again and its sputtering again and it goes a lil and then dies. so i pull it over and pop the hood to see if i has lost oil pressure or something, but it looks ok. i did notice the intake manifold was hot as hell (is it always like this?). so i go to start the car again and it runs again.

now, this has happened before, but not as bad. a few days ago the car got all stuttery then died while i was waiting at a red light. and for the last 2 months i have noticed that once in a while(once or twice a month), when im cruising on the freeway, it will hesitate for a split second, and then go as normal again, making the car just jerk a little bit.

what can this problem be??? this is my daily driver, i need it for work and school. i dont really wanna take it to a shop till i have an idea what the problem mite be, b/c the problem isnt always present and they would have a hell of a time tryn to diagnos it without experiencing it. thanks in advance for any info. oh yeah its an 88 325is with a 173ECU and jimC chip outa 89 325is in case that matters. thanks

AFM is secure, maybe a fuel system problem?

Fuel filter. 95% sure. Buddy had the same issue at school. Gone after a quick filter change.

        Keep it slideways!!

Check your main relay, fuel pump relay, and OBC relay box.

I have the same problem aswell like it jerks as if im doing a bad shift.

Talked to my friends dad who is a certified mechanic that runs his own shop and he said he is pretty sure it is a fuel filter problem and that i should buy a new one and see if it fixs the problem.

What i am saying is that yes it probably is a fuel filter problem and you should replace it.
