what the hell is this vibration

alright recently my car has developed a vibe that gets strong from like 2000-3000 in 4th gear especially.
so having said that i think its someothing that comes after tranny could it be the guibo?
    anything else to check?

well both TJ and I have problems with our guibos..... however it is only noticable while going WOT in first and second gear.... gets more noticable depending on how bad the guibo is.

I doubt that could be the case for you....

Where does the vibration seem to be coming from? The tranny?

i have a similar problem, im under the impression the vibration is actually the driveshaft spinning unbalanced. My guibo bolts from trans to guibo and from guibo to the driveshaft keep wroking thier way loose until one breaks then you start feeling a very violent vibration in first and 2nd gear. also makes a sort of thumping sound if you really get on it. which i try to avoid if i can. Im going to replace all my bolts with new ones the driveshaft is new same with the guibo so hopefully this will fix the problem if not, oh well. gives me an excuse to work on my car rather than mow the lawn.

It's likely a u-joint, I get a quiet clunking between 1500-2000 rpms in first gear.

            Keep it slideways!!

if it was an ubalanced ds it would vibrate all the time mine only vibrates when the tranny is under a load (when pressing the gass in gear) could it be mounts or bad clutch install
doesnt vibrate with clutch in or with foot off gas in gear
vibration i think is from tranny maybe from else where you can feel it on the bottom of the seat and of course in the shift lever
i also get a slight clunk in 4th when accelerating btw 2k-3k

just to clear this up the guibo connects tranny to driveshaft right if not what am i thinking of?

                CENTER BEARING

It's almost always the center bearing surround being torn.
                remove heatsheild and inspect.

You more than likely have a shot guibo/flex disc, you should replace and don't simply throw that bolt back in there.

Well you can tell fairly easy whether or not the guibo is shot by simply looking at it.

I've been told by driveshaft repair places that a bad u-joint will lead to a bad center support, and a flex disk....

well theres 1 nut (the one i found) and one bolt missing(still at large) if my gpa doesnt have one ill shoot over to leith(dealer) and buy one
guibo looks to be in pretty good shape

yes, I just put in all new quibo bolts, and Trans Mounts. No more vibration. I had done a new driveshaft about a month ago. Also check your Diff Mounting Bolts and Halfshaft Bolts. I noticed a few minor noises before and clunks getting on and off gas. For some reason the Diff Bolts worked thier way loose.

Ive had this problem for a few months now i usually just tighten them back up and then 3-4 weeks later ill do it again. Unless I shear one off which has happened 4 times.

This had also happened in my car before the rebuild. So we used a different trans, new driveshaft, new diff, and a new guibo. I now have all new Bolts and Nuts for the Guibo hopefully they work better. Everything else was sorted out i think... My one friend who owns a BMW Service center said to tighten down the driveshaft to the quibo and the diff, with the center bearing hanging by only a few threads. after you tighten everything else up you tighten the center bearing. Sounded like it made sense to me. that way you dont tighten the center bearing down crooked and then tighten it to the trans.

I hope this solved all my vibrations and such. I will let you know if it worked and continues to work. Only other thing could be the rear bearing in the trans not sure of the name. But my dad said if that was bad there would be lots of noise and oil involved and thats not the case so. I think Ill be alright now.

On the Downpipe/connecting pipe thing for the exhuast. I dont know the technical name. Would cutting those Silencers out be a bad Idea? Leaving the Cat-Back Exhuast on, but I started at about 4:30pm and i dropped the exhuast, which was hot just used some welding gloves but the silencers or whatever they are. Were still rather hot almost 4 hours later when i went to put it back in. Everything else was cool but just that part was still too hot to handle for a few seconds. To me that seems kind of odd, Its shouldnt retain that much heat, I did remove the covering that was over it because it was well falling off so I did away with it. Would Cutting that section out hurt or improve performance in any way? I mean if its clogged up and blocking exhuast it would improve performance too cut it out right? but I do need some back pressure.

Also If my A/C doesnt blow cold anymore, should I just remove the entire unit? Its heavy and robs some power from what I understand. Ive talked alot about fixing it and I never have. Should I just do away with it. Im really going to concentrate on the small things on my car and try to sort them out.

I know im a little off topic but I dont feel the need to start a new topic.
The Chip in my car is pretty old. It was used I got it from TMS and it had an intermitten miss, which 1 week it will be here then its gone for 3 years then all the sudden its back. I dont know much about the performance software stuff. I have an entire ECU sitting around last three Digits are 173, I dont know what they mean but Ive heard thats a decent ECU i guess.... Anyone here know about these things. Id search online but I simply dont have the time.
