Thanks kenika65 I may go with a remanufactured one from advance autoparts...unless anyone has input on the quality of these. Seems like a good deal for $80 w free shipping.

Another thought I have is, if its possible to just replace the halfshaft if your wheel bearing is still good?
Renting my rear wheel bearing tool kit. SIR

Wheel bearing isn't on the shaft.

I was thinking it might be difficult to remove the shaft from the hub w/o damaging the wheel bearing...trying to prepare for every complication.

You can use a puller to push the axle out of the bearing, etc. Lots of info on here. Really no easy way to damage the bearing unless you whack it with a sledge.

Ok so with hub puller, wouldn't it pull on the wheel bearing?

No, if the arms of the puller are hooked on the flange of the rear wheel bearing and the screw of the puller is on the center of the axle, turning the screw will push out the axle form the bearing.

If you don't want to go with the puller, just remove the studs are the diff, pull the shaft away from the diff, then (after removing the axle nut of course) tap it gently with a BFH and drift till it releases.

                  I recommend the puller though.
