This is what miata guys do.

3 Qts ATF 1 quart oil....new filter....run for about an hour at idle....a few revs...shut off, change oil.

Seemed to get a lot of shit out, who knows though. ATF wasn't red when it came out, good bit darker.

I did the ATF thing. I just put in a half quart and drove a few miles with a trip or two to the top of the tach before I changed oil/filter. Oil came out dirty dirty dirty.

I'm pretty sure seafoam is bad for rubber parts, unlike ATF. So it should be used sparingly. Then again, so is all the ethanol in our gasoline.

I wouldn't drive around with any flush... just let it idle

If you have an engine that is very crudded up you can use ATF. Pour it in and let the car idle for a while like a half hour. It will not wash it right the heck out like Motor Flush or other chemicals so the chance of clogging up the works is slim.

If you want a car you don't have to spend any money on or pay attention to, go buy a Honda.

Leave the E30s for the guys that actually want to spend the money and do the upkeep to have them run well.

I went the Peugeot 505 turbo diesel route, it's the size of an e28 and pulled down mid 30s for fuel economy, but not much fun to drive compared to a BMW, except when it was costing $175 to fill my truck up :hitler:

ATF... I went this route on the cabbie I just picked up, the engine is worn and was full of dirt from POs trip into the dirt sans oil pan :x so I flushed it at idle with straight Walmart cheapie ATF 3 times after cleaning what I could, even the last flush came out black, I intend to drive 1000 miles or so on moter oil and flush it again, but I'll check the spray bar, no funny sounds yet.

In the past I've pulled the oil + 1 quart of ATF using 20-50W to help offset viscosity reduction of the ATF, the only problem is while I was out driving it the dogs got out and cost me $128 to recover from the pound :tsk: but that had little to do with the flush :ot:
