Where to buy Wheel Bearings?

If you want good front hub assemblies for the E30's - buy TIMKEN hub assemblies (or rear wheel bearings). TIMKEN is an excellent bearing manufacturer and I've used their assemblies & bearings for many years, never an issue with their products.

You can buy front hub bearing assemblies (and rear wheel bearings) from www.hubbearing.com (they sell Timken bearings & hubs for far less than any local auto parts stores or online vendors).

The same front hub bearing assembly for my 318 is only $90.49 each from them, while most online vendors and local parts dealers want in excess of $120+ each for the same part. At least check them out before buying any bearings locally...

Anybody hear of the brand Ruville, apparently they are OE manufacturer, FCP Croton sells them at $77 a piece for the front wheel bearing.

Mine are snap on impact sockets. They have to be ground down. I use air. My gun likes to break chrome non impact sockets. I have some regular chrome sockets. I Just never use them. We don't see a lot of wheel bearings anymore.

the rear doesn't need a thin wall. I just used a standard craftsmen 30mm for an e30 like 2 weeks ago

Yea, I was just about to post the same thing. you will need a thin wall socket for both. I purchased a Snap on but you can buy the one like you have and grind it down around the first inch or so. just don't use air with it afterward, it is a fracture hazard!

Well, sorry. Im not sure about the front. it may be bigger. I cannot remember

The tech articles I've read say 36mm for the front I thought.

Also, another question. I rented a 36mm from O'Reilly autoparts but it doesn't fit within the hub. Where can I get a proper socket?

You are gonna need to either find a thin walled one or shave one down to fit in there.

Yeah I'm sorry, this is in regard to the fronts.

From the looks of things today the driver's front sounds and feels ok, the passenger side is miserable though. Just glad I only have to replace one. Anyone bought them on eBay? They're only about $75.


On a similar subject, the car has H&R wheel studs but one of them is broken in the rear hub. My dad and I tried to EZ-Out it today with no success. Any other suggestions or do I need to look for a newe rear hub and just order a new set of wheel studs?
