Air Fuel Gauge?

Does anyone have an air fuel ratio gauge they recommend? I want to pick one up before I start really tuning my car.

I did search and I did find geoge graves, what he offers if nice and a really clean idea but I want something with a little more detail.

For a narrowband or wideband?

Trust me, for a narrow band, my gauge is all the info you will get out of a narrowband gauge.

For a wideband (if you are running MegaSquirt/turbo that is what you want) I suggest Innovate LC-1 or JAW (Just Another Wideband) - but be ready to shell out some money for a sensor, controller and gauge.

A narrow band sensor, in a way, only produces two different readings. Rich or lean. That works fine for an OEM set up. The microprocessor in your ECU adds a bit more fuel if the sensor tells it it's lean, and if the sensor is reading rich it adds a bit less fuel - Do that several thousand times a second, and your mixture will be spot on.

But for a human eye to try and read a gauge like this is much harder to do. SO a wideband display will tell you HOW RICH or HOW LEAN you actually are.

Sampling rate has almost nothing to do with it. Any gauge you buy, either mine or someone else's, will sample millions of times a second.

If you are running big boost then a wideband AFR is recommended as running too rich or lean can start blowing things up.

Innovate LC-1 is a very good AFR controller but as George stated the setup isn't cheap. The LC-1 is $199 by itself.

If you want to read boost and AFR at the same time this is the gauge I use.

I got a westech AF ratio gauge which has actual AF number to give you better idea of the ratio. Range is limited to 17 to 12 as it's designed for narrowband instead of wideband

It won't give you accurate reading as wideband, but at least it provide some idea about current engine AF ratio instead of flashing led light show.

For a gauge, Autometer is a good choice also.
