    Removing the ignition lock cylinder

    So my key broke off in my ignition and Ive been trying to remove the whole cylinder. I read and tried this-



    It just doesn't want to come out. Is there anything else that I need to remove for the cylinder to come out? Will it just pop out real easy once the catch is disengaged?

    umm i think a slide hammer is in order.

      the key needs to be turned to accessory for that to work. you also need to be able to pull the key out to remove the tumbler...

        I just got it out!! I used a flathead to wiggle the keyhole around so i could slide my allen in a couple more mm to disengage the catch. Then it slid right out. My fingers were a little moist and when i touched the bare metal my fingers got stuck to it, haha. Damn its cold!

            My friend wanted to drive my car around the block, so I figured.. "whats the worst that could happen?" He didnt push the key in all the way and it snapped then he forced it in deeper. My battery isnt holding a charge in this cold weather and i cant bring it in since my key is broken.

              You sure can drive it! Without the lock cylinder, (almost) any screwdriver in your toolbox will start the car.

                Not if my battery is dead and I cant get in my car.

                Anyway, I replaced my voltage regulator, tightened up the alternator belt, and cleaned up my battery posts. So my electrical system is fixed. I got a new key made and the lock cylinder is back in place. So far so good. I could really use a project thread or something.

                      Yours is in the bottom of the cylinder lock. you'll need to remove the lower steering wheel cover.
