if you want to replace that as preventative maintenance, why nothing else? when were the timing belt and water pump done? also, have you done a compression test? how do you know everything is 100%?

        You guys are very entertaining.

I have been told by BMW them selves that its okay to do the shels with the engine in the car, they also told me that you need to get the correct colour when ordering new ones, and i think that you wont be able to tell the colour till you open her up.

I m not going to get upset, just trying to point out you have no idea what u r talking about! School or not, and "working" on cars, and "about" to "start" the bmw step program doesnt mean anything. replacing the bearings will not hurt anything, and it is definately not a bad thing to do. no reason to give rediculious answers when you are not sure of something.
I never said that it would hurt anything to replace the bearings, I just considered it a waste of time without good reason. This is my opinion.

As I said before you can tell the bearings are bad when it starts to knock or oil pressure is low., If you keep oil changes recent, the other reciprocating parts will be worn and creating their own problems, more than likely before the bearings fail.

If it makes you feel better, replace them. ;)

I agree, pulling a M20 is like replacing spark plugs, just to easy,,

If you want to go ahead and do this, consider is a weekend job with plenty time on your hands left,,
