complete "e" to "i" swap- parts list, in

    Guys,

I'm getting ready to help a friend convert his '84 325e to an "i" drivetrain. His car is a 5 speed car, so we are planning to use his tranny, but we're trying to come up with a comprehensive list of the parts needed to complete the conversion. (I already have most- if not all- of the "i" parts we are going to need- we just want to make sure)

Here's a list of the main things I could come up with in the last few minutes:

    - Complete "i" motor with engine wiring harness + ECU (aren't the early/late harness connectors different??)

    - "i" AFM, intake boot, ICV, etc

    - "i" instrument cluster (or at least the tach)

    - "i" flywheel (unless his car has the non-dual mass flywheel) with "i" clutch (he has an almost new "e" clutch in there- so we will use it if we can)

    - "i" exhaust manifolds + exhaust system (dual pipes)

Anything else (small or large) that we have not thought of????

    Thanks!!

    Bret.

You forgot about the C101 (engine harness to fusebox) connector. The harness plug is round, the fusebox connector is rectangular.

Thanks- we've got the diff situation covered (it's getting a 373LSD). I was mainly looking for engine-related things.

Are you going to swap a "i" motor into the "e" or build a 2.7L?

            Re:

Couple things I discovered on my e to i swap.
            9/85 w/ proper round C101 connector

Hole through the firewall needs to be enlarged.
i computer uses a different mounting bracket
ETA starter uses round stud plug....i uses female spade
Alt no issues...use urethane bushing if ETA. i is all metal and 10 more
            amps
Oil level sensor plug is different on late "i"s...just need the proper level
            sender.
Late "i" engine harness uses different style c104 plug. Same # of wires.

I had no tach signal issues w/ the 87 i harness.

323 / 318 tach in ETA cluster or entire 323 cluster hit limiter @ 5900
indicated. Switched to the newer codic lower right style cluster and had the
            proper 6400 tach
