Windshield wiper not working (v. 1003)

My wipers are not working (or not working right at least). I have yet to really look into it but I figure I would ask because I bet its pretty common.

I move the stalk in every position and even try the fluid function. It wont work. I keep playing with it and eventually i can hold the stalk down(or like keep pressing it down) and the wipers will move but then they don't seem to move back to the original location.

search turned up a few things but nothing definitive. Fuse possibly? Linkage(or w/e)?

really hoping this is something where I don't have to take the consoles out again. doin the heater core/valve was a bitch

Sounds to me like the stalk is bad, especially if the sprayers don't work either.

I don't want to start another thread, but I hav a problem with my wipers too.

I was driving home in pouring rain today and had my wipers on the third setting (fastest speed). After driving for about 30 minutes, I realized that the driver side wiper was going off the left side of the windshield. I immediately stopped the wipers from moving but due to the heavy rain, I needed to get the rain off my windshield so I could see. I tapped the stalk so the wipers could move once, and once I did that the driver side wiper arm went completely off the windshield and got stuck between the pillar and the side window.
I slowed down and had to drive looking through the passenger side of my windshield. I got off on the next exit, but that was 1-2 miles down the road. I pulled off and put the driver side wiper back in place but now it won't move. It gets caught underneath the passenger side wiper arm when that one goes up, and when it does move fast enough to not get caught, it only goes about halfway up the windshield before coming back down.
I want to get this fixed as it's raining here for the next week or so, and I need the wipers for when I go up to the mountains to snowboard.

I'm thinking it's possibly the gears are stripped on the wiper arms, but it could be something else?
      help?

but I have held the stalk down and about 1 out of 100 times the wipers will move.

know how i can check? I have a 90 vert i can take w/e from so I would like to just replace w/e is needed and be done with it.

1st problem: try turning them on and pressing the cruise control stalk down. dont ask me why, but mine will completely stop working sometimes but when i press the cc stalk down, they work perfectly.

2nd: mine did the same when i first got my car. the splines on the shaft are probably worn out or stripped completely. when i fixed mine, i just jammed the wiper arm back on so that it made its own splines lol. you could use some jb weld or something similar though.

            FTW!

this is definitely the problem...although it doesn't seem like I can just jam it back on. is there a way to access the stalks if you take off the steering wheel?
