    Replaced transmission idle messed up...

So I have an 87 with the timing sensors in the bellhousing. I replaced the trans and the sensors and now my idle is off.

It does decent warming up, bounces a bit. But once it's warm is hangs on the edge of killing itself and when it finally dips low enough it will shoot itself up. It's just really rough.

Is my timing off or can I simply move the idle up?

Did you replace with new sensors and are they in the right locations?

Replaced with sensors that were said to be in good condition. I got them from Joe autobahn sport.

I believe they are in the right spot I had them one way and the car wouldn't start so I flipped 'em. I'm guessing the way that made the car start is the right way?

Sounds like they're flaky then, try new ones.

The idle isn't that bad, it just seems slightly low. Car runs great when not idling.

Is it possible that the old ones were slightly bad and the ecu had adjusted for them and now these are good and the ecu is off? Or is the ecu not capable of adjusting for this?

I'd be more suspicious of an intake leak.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Yeah, sounds like a vacuum leak of some sort. Check everything, pulling a trans can knock a lot of stuff loose.

If you don't find anything, I'd try new sensors. I bought a set from Euro Depot once that were completely dead. I wasted several days troubleshooting...

Hmm. Well my intake tube is duct taped together so maybe I should find a new one of those.

Would spark plugs, wires, or air filter be a culprit?

If it ran fine before doing work to the car, and as soon as you put it back together it started running poorly, it would be safe to assume that your issues aren't caused by maintenance items.

So I got into my car this afternoon and as soon as it started idle dropped and I had to jab the gas. Then held the idle up so it could stay alive and warm as I drove down the street and stopped. Got onto the freeway (had to hold idle up or it would nearly die). After driving 10 minutes on the freeway I pulled off at my exit and to my surpise the car idled perfectly. Then after 30. Seconds it reverted to barely keeping itself alive. Still sound intake related? That seemed a bit odd to me since the intake would be a constant thing

Could be an intake leak, bad AFM, or sticky/bad ICV.
